SECRET PROJECT
Citadel.
Bastion. Wall. Fence. Pub. Cottage. Family garden. Backyard.
Community. Free atmosphere. Views. Beer. Dogs. Children playing.
Unfinished. People talking. Food smelling. Trees. Strawberries.
Potential. Limited use. Summer. Nest.
A
historical citadel looking over Vltava river, at the same time
ominous and inviting. The huge wall has a surprise inside it: a
garden for the people, a place with an atmosphere of freedom. People
are sitting around the tables drinking, talking, spending time with
their friends. Couples are more in love and families find themselves
like if they are in their own garden, children are playing, running
and smiling. This is the kind of place that we find what people bring
into it, always in movement, changing its nature.
Without the people
this site would look like a dead part of Vysehrad. People ignore the
fact that the place is not perfect or finished in any way, if the
grass is not cut and the chair is broken. They are here only to share
a moment together and maybe to find a place without judgment, a
feeling of community, tolerance and comfort. A dream? Perhaps not,
but all the people know this is an ephemeral moment.
What
if this scene could continue? What if we could preserve the soul of
the place, still bringing something new into it? What if we could
take this nest underground, like a mole finds its home under the
surface? Perhaps the obvious solution would be right under our feet?

In your decision of revealing the underground I see a huge potential and possibly the concept of your project – as you already know. Apart of finding an appropriate function which would accommodate such place there is another even more important question you need to deal with. How is the mutual relation of the underground and the overground going to work?
In my opinion the great architecture always manages to create a strong and meaningful relation between both of them. There are many approaches. Still the main decision is: are the two spaces going to be separate or connected? If connected, how then? In your case I think it would be really challenging to manage those two spaces to intermingle. To create a continuous space - fluently connecting the inside with the outside. Something like Yokohama Ship Terminal or Moebius’ loop.
One recent Czech project came to mine mind as a possible illustration of my impression.
